Our Mission
The JB12 Foundation is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Jaylen Betschart by empowering young athletes to pursue their dreams through education and sports. In his memory, we provide scholarships to deserving student-athletes who demonstrate excellence both on the field and in the classroom. Through this commitment, we ensure that Jaylen’s passion, determination, and spirit continue to inspire future generations to achieve their full potential.

August 6, 2003 – October 3, 2020
Jaylen “JJ” Betschart was a bright light in every room he entered—a vibrant 17-year-old senior at Sacramento High School, eagerly anticipating his graduation in 2021. Tragically, his life was cut short on October 3, 2020, in a senseless act of gun violence while driving home from a paintball outing with friends.
Born and raised in Sacramento, JJ spent all 17 years of his precious life surrounded by the love of his family, friends, and community. As a child, he was active in East Sacramento Little League and Pop Warner football, where his natural athleticism and love for sports quickly became apparent. By 2019, Jaylen had earned a spot on the Capital Athletic League All-League First Team—an honor that reflected his hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent.
Jaylen was not only an accomplished athlete, but also a gifted student with big dreams for his future. He aspired to attend college, pursue a career as a forensic scientist, play professional sports, and one day buy a home for his mother. His ambition was matched only by his humility, kindness, and infectious smile.
Outside of school and sports, JJ was like many teenagers—he loved playing video games, spending time with his cousins and friends, and cheering on his favorite teams: the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Bears.
Jaylen, was a devoted son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend. While his athletic gifts were undeniable, it was his warmth, character, and joyful spirit that truly defined him.
Though Jaylen should be here today - continuing to chase his dreams and light up the world with his radiant smile - his memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The JB12 Foundation created in his honor stands as a testament to his legacy: one of hope, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
